The life of Joseph Smith Tanner is a profound history of faith, sacrifice, hardship, and success. From this great man came forth a large and prolific family that thrives in many parts of the United States and the world today. Thanks to the work of his Great-Grandson, William W. Tanner, many never-before-told stories and well-known accounts from Joseph’s life and the lives of many of his descendants have been beautifully preserved and presented in two new books. "Joseph Smith Tanner: His Family and Descendants" and "BOOK TITLE" explore the life experiences and historical events centered on this truly remarkable man.

Joseph Smith Tanner son of John Tanner and Elizabeth Beswick, was the couple’s first child born after they converted to the gospel and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joseph was the patriarch of a large family, the husband of three wives and father of 31 children. Joseph was part of a branch of the Tanner family that settled Payson, Utah. He served four years as a member of Payson City Council and four years as that city’s mayor. Joseph was on the first board of directors of the Provo Woolen Mills and President of the Payson Co-operative Institution for fifteen years.

In 1857 Joseph Smith Tanner was ordained and elder by Apostle Amasa Lyman and in 1871 a high priest by Brigham Young and later set apart as Bishop of the Payson Ward which over time included Santiquin, Spring Lake, Salem, and Benjamin. Much more information and stories taken directly from family journals, personal histories, and various Tanner family resources are found in the pages of each book.
In the companion volume to "CHAD ORTON BOOK TITLE" William Tanner turns the focus on Joseph Smith Tanner's extended family and the descendants.
